The UNECE-led event was hosted by the Department of Water Management<br \/>\nand Melioration of the Ministry of Agriculture and Melioration of Kyrgyzstan and supported by \u201cWater Management and Basin<br \/>\nOrganisations in Central Asia (WMBOCA)\u201d project, which is funded by the European Union and implemented by <a href=\"http:\/\/giz.de\">Deutsche<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/giz.de\"> Gesellschaft f\u00fcr Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH<\/a> , Transboundary Water Management in Central Asia Programme.<br \/>\nPolicy makers, including representatives of the ministries of agriculture, health, natural resources, as well as other<br \/>\nauthorities, international organisations and enterprises, gathered for the meeting.<br \/>\nAmbassador Chantal Hebberecht, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the Kyrgyz Republic encouraged<br \/>\nKyrgyzstan in implementation of IWRM and emphasized that water issue is of particular interest, especially as to<br \/>\nachievement of water- related Millenium goals.<br \/>\nFollowing activities implemented in the framework of WMBOCA were presented: draft of basin planning manual and basin<br \/>\nplanning concept and basin planning approach for Isfara river.<br \/>\nPolicy brief on the National Policy Dialogue and agreement on general direction of further IWMR implementation activities in<br \/>\nCentral Asia were outcomes of the meeting.<br \/>\n<strong>Note to Editors:<\/strong><br \/>\nThe EU-supported National Policy Dialogues on IWRM programme assist governments of the countries of Eastern Europe, the<br \/>\nCaucasus and Central Asia in promoting implementation of the IWRM in line with the principles of the UNECE Water<br \/>\nConvention, the Protocol on Water and Health, the EU Water Framework Directive and other UNECE and European Union<br \/>\ninstruments.<br \/>\nNational Policy Dialogues on IWRM are the main operational instrument of the European Union Water Initiative (EUWI), an<br \/>\ninternational partnership that aims at contributing to the achievement of the water related Millennium Development Goals. The<br \/>\nUnited Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) is the strategic partner to support the policy dialogue process on<br \/>\nintegrated water resources management. The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is the<br \/>\nstrategic partner for water supply and sanitation.<br \/>\nThe support to the NPD on 13 March 2013 was provided in the framework of \u201cWater Management and Basin Organisations in<br \/>\nCentral Asia (WMBOCA)\u201d project. WMBOCA is funded by the European Union and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft f\u00fcr<br \/>\nInternationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH acting in partnership with the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia<br \/>\n(CAREC).
